Painting the Bathroom Vanity

A few weeks ago, while my husband was out of town, I kept myself occupied with several small projects! One of the projects was painting the bathroom vanity.

Since we moved into our home back in April, I’ve been thinking about a mini makeover in the bathroom. I finally decided that I wanted to paint the vanity and mirror black!

This project really turned out better than I expected it would! I was so anxious for my husband to get home from his trip so I could show off my work! He told me probably 5 times that it looked really good and that he really liked the black!

This project cost me nothing since I used leftover black paint.

I simply cleaned the cabinets and let them dry and then painted! I applied two coats of paint. If I had to do it over again, I probably would prime the cabinet first.  {I’m thrilled with how it turned out and I’m just hoping it will hold up since it wasn’t primed!}

We love the new look in the bathroom!

Have you thought of painting your bathroom vanity?

  1. Great job, Rachel! It looks awesome!
    We bought a house in dire need of renovation from top to bottom. We have and did paint our vanity as well. I do not like change, so I didnt know how it would be painting a wood-colored (outdated) vanity white, but hubby did it as a surprise while I was away once. I was astonished how much brighter it made the bathroom!
    Again, great job!

    1. Thank you! It is amazing how much a coat of paint can change a space! Thanks to this, I've been telling my hubby a coat of black paint can make anything look better!! 🙂

  2. I really like that. I thought about doing that in our house, we have four vanities! But we are going to sell the house and I think I will pass and let a new owner decide if that is their taste.

  3. So inspiring! I have been wanting to paint our bathroom cabinets too. We have the paint, and paint supplies, so I could totally do it.

    By the way thanks for the blog, I love reading your story. My husband and I have three children, and last year we made the decision together, that he should go back to school for his PhD. We are currently living on a student stipend and savings, so things are tight, but not horrible. We are learning to enjoying our "frugal and simple" life.

    1. Just paint it!! I was a bit nervous but it turned out so good! Best wishes living on the student stipend! I'm sure in a few years you'll look back on these days of living with a little fondly! We miss our teeny apartment from college!

  4. This looks fantastic! What kind of paint did you use? I am going to try to do this to my bathroom this weekend and hope it will make my bathroom look as good as yours!

    1. I actually used some exterior paint that we had left over from painting our outside doors. It was mold/mildew resistant so I figured it would be perfect for the bathroom. I know they make bathroom paints…
