Chicken Tacos on Homemade Tortillas

Mexican food is a favorite in our home and when it’s hot outside we eat Chicken Tacos at least once a week and sometimes twice! {Unless I’m in my first trimester and chicken isn’t appetizing…thankfully I’m over that aversion now!)

We received a tortilla press¬†as a Christmas present and we love making homemade tortillas. So far we haven’t settled on a favorite recipe but every one we’ve tried has been delicious.

Chicken Tacos make a quick, easy and frugal meal.

Chicken Breast {we typically dice but sometimes will shred}

Taco Seasoning {try homemade taco seasoning; when we shred the chicken we use rotel to season}

Toppings {Guacamole, Sour Cream, Cheese, Cilantro, Salsa, Tomatoes, Lettuce, whatever you like!}

1. Cook your chicken; season and let simmer.

2. Serve on tortillas and garnish with your choice of toppings.

Easy, frugal and delicious!

  1. In my family, we make tortillas with masa de maíz. It is a big thing for the women in our family to make the tortillas by hand. They are soo good! You can buy the masa de maíz at Wal-Mart for $3 and I generally get 4 dinners out of one bag. You mix 2 cups with 2 cups of hot water and it makes 8 tortillas. It ends up being a super cheap but very filling meal!

  2. I really love homemade whole wheat tortillas best. Your pic looks like guacamole cream sauce? Any special recipe for that?

    1. We don't really follow a recipe for guacamole! Just chop the guacamole up fine, add some sour cream, lime juice, salt and pepper and occasionally a spoon or two of Rotel for some spice! It's always good!

  3. Rachel,

    My husband has recently started making home made corn tortillas for himself and gluten free flour ones for my daughter and I. He has been using a rolling pin and I remembered reading this post of yours back in July. I was wondering what type of press you have? How you are enjoying it, as a few months have gone by? Would you suggest this brand or shall I proceed to look for other options. Thank you for your posts and response.

    God Bless,
