Pillowcase dresses are just adorable and are so easy to make! If you can sew a straight stitch, you can make a pillowcase dress! I finally took the time to make my niece one for this summer.
Since she lives 3 1/2 hours away and I couldn’t use her to fit the dress, I took a pair 12 month overalls I’ve been given for Paxton and used them as a reference for the length and width of a 12 month size.
I cut out 2 pieces of fabric leaving a little extra room on all sides for hemming. I cut out arm holes and hemmed them up and then made a casing to run the ribbon through. Once I ran the ribbon through and measured that the 2 ribbons were equal I put a small stitch in the center to hold the ribbon on the dress.
Then, since I don’t have a serger, I hemmed the sides of the fabric so there wouldn’t be any raw edges and sewed the 2 sides of the dress together. And last, I hemmed the bottom and was done!
(Pillowcase Dress Instructions– a great tutorial I referred to when making the dress. I didn’t follow it step by step and do everything she did but I used it as a visual guide!)
Here is the finished dress! I can’t wait to see it on Miss Emerson, I know she will look just precious!
