I just read Shannie's comment about how your marriage will change with a baby. I think that is the scariest part about deciding to have a baby. Even though your marriage will be stronger and better in the long run, the unknown is always a scary thing.

I'm looking forward to this series, it sounds very interesting.

I wasn't prepared for SO many things! My son is 4 months old now, he was born premature, and is doing well, thank God. But with 6 weeks of colic, normally fussy child, sleepless nights, and a cranky husband...it made for a very difficult time. I would say just to keep the communication going between you and your husband.
Do NOT try to do it all on your own, ask for help!!!!!
Spend time together as a family and go out on date nights.
Get as much sleep as you can before birth.
Know that having a healthy mommy and baby is the MOST important result of the birthing experience.
Forget about the housework for the weeks following the birth, you need rest!
Do listen to your instincts, the child you just had is yours, and you know whats best for it.
All the book reading and preparing goes out the window once the baby comes.
You will do many of the things you said you wouldn't do. :)
Breastfeeding doesn't come easily but it's worth it in the end. Like all good things, it takes practice.
If you want to breastfeed, do NOT let the medical staff give your child ANYTHING, like sugar water, etc.
Everyone you meet becomes the next 'expert' on babies and will give you unwanted advice. Just smile and say thank you and move on.
Set aside time to be a woman, to pamper yourself, you're worth it!

I have lots more, but it would become a book on here!

The thing I wish someone had told me, and that I told my daughter is that only you know what's really best for your own child. If a doctor seems to be not hearing what you are saying, if a person watching your child won't respect your wishes, it's time to make a change.

Hi. I think something else you should consider is how your marriage will change when you have a baby. I wasn't prepared for it at all because I thought that nothing would change because "we are a strong couple". Silly woman. :)
I had twin daughters 5 years ago today and nothing in my life is the same. Not myself, not my marriage... nothing. It's not a bad thing. Not at all. I just had no idea. I remember getting all the "stuff" ready for the girls and reading the "books" and making the "lists"... and then feeling like someone had pulled the rug out from under me once the girls came.
So my BIG advice is to take stock in your marriage. Spend the next few weeks totally focusing on "couple-ness" and don't forget who you are when the baby comes. Make sure you still have date nights once he arrives! Make sure that your husband and your marriage stay a priority in your life. (Oh, and get LOTS of sleep now.)
