Homemade Applesauce
Posted by Rachel on Nov 13, 2009 in in the kitchen, recipes | 4 commentsWhen my parents came to visit a few weeks ago they brought me a bunch of Arkansas Black apples from my Grandpa’s farm! There were way too many apples for us to eat so I decided to make homemade applesauce and can it since we love applesauce!

Here are the apples!

Close up shot…they were huge!

Step 1: Peel the apples.

Step 2: Slice the apples.

Step 3: Place apples in a large pot with a little water.

Step 4: Watch them cook! This is when they were beginning to soften.

Step 5: You have applesauce!! Add sugar (if you want, according to your taste) and also cinnamon if you want cinnamon applesauce. Place in jars and put in water bath to can. They need to process for 20 minutes (for pint jars).

Step 6: You have canned applesauce! Yummy! I ended up with 9 pints of plain and 3 of cinnamon.

It took me approximately 4 hours from start to finish (canning completed & kitchen clean) to make these 12 pints! And the house smelled oh so homey!!
